How To Get Started in Modelling
Do you want to try modelling but you’re not sure where to start? Or do you religiously watch America’s Next Top Model and wonder how you’d do at the challenges? Perhaps you’d like to try modelling for fun? If it leads to something later why not?
Modelling can be a great learning experience or hobby, and for the lucky ones that never give up and persevere, their interest can be become a part-time or full-time profession.
The problem with getting into modelling is that the industry is wrought with scams and cheats. People will come up to you and say you can be a model because you are pretty, tall, have unique eyes, or have a nice figure. When you follow up, you find that you have to pay hundreds and thousands of dollars for photo shoots to be part of an agency, and never even see any work at all!
So with that, here’s our practical 3 Step Guide on how you can get your feet wet into modelling without drowning.
Step #1: Sign up with a legitimate agency
The most popular question we get is “How do I know if the agency is legitimate?”
The answer is: An agency that really believes in you is one that will invest money and time into you, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. This legitimate agency will sell you to their clients and get work for you. This means you should not have to pay for training and photo shoots.
Since NTM Studios is neutral and ‘agency friendly’, we cannot recommend agencies to you. However, you can do your own research online and set up an interview to test whether they are legitimate and if they believe they can represent you, what will they do for you.
Keep in mind that every agency is different, so just because you get rejected by one doesn’t mean you won’t succeed with another.
Step #2: Find work yourself
You’ll need perseverance and to work really hard, but if you feel you have what it takes or you have contacts in the industry, then you can get started by building your own portfolio.
